Are you entitled to claim an Input Tax Credit on this Green Slip?? Only GST registered business may claim an ITC

Green Slip Input Tax Credit

NSW Compulsory Third Party insurers issue two types of Green Slips:

  • the standard Green Slip for people who are not entitled to claim an input tax credit
  • a tax invoice Green Slip for GST registered business that can claim an input tax credit

Tax invoice Green Slips cost more than standard Green Slips because even though an input tax credit can be claimed on the GST component of the Green Slip premium, insurers cannot get a tax credit when Compulsory Third Party claims settle.

You should check with your accountant or financial advisor if you are unsure of your GST status or whether you can claim an input tax credit on your Green Slip. If you have more questions, contact your Green Slip insurer or the Australian Tax Office on 13 28 66.

What is a blue slip?

A blue slip is a safety inspection report for unregistered vehicles. A blue slip certifies that your vehicle is roadworthy and also that it meets design and identity standards. Blue slips can only be issued by Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Stations (AUVIS).

For more information visit www.rms.nsw.gov.au

Will the vehicle require a Blue Slip to be registered?

If the vehicle has been unregistered for more than 3 months, you must take out a Green Slip for 12 months. Roads and Maritime Services does not allow for a 6 month option.

Other motor insurance

Your insurance history may be used as a rating factor and can affect the prices charged by some of the licensed Green Slip insurers. You will need to provide details about any insurance you have on your vehicle to obtain accurate prices. General information about vehicle insurance is provided below to help you identify the type of insurance that you have.

What is comprehensive car insurance?

Comprehensive car insurance coverage varies from insurer to insurer, but generally covers you for damage to your own vehicle as well as any damage you may cause to other vehicles or the property of others.

What is Third Party Property Damage car insurance?

Third Party Property Damage car insurance generally covers you for any damage that you cause to other vehicles or the property of others but does not usually cover you for any damage to your own vehicle. Third Party Property Damage car insurance coverage varies from insurer to insurer.

Note: The information included above is provided to help you identify the type of vehicle insurance that you have, if any. It should not be taken as confirmation of coverage for your particular insurance policy. Check with your vehicle insurer for specific details of the coverage that your insurance policy provides.

The prices listed on this page are estimates based on the information that you have provided in each of the previous steps and include the Medical Care and Injury Services (MCIS) Levy and GST. All prices assume that you are not entitled to claim a GST Input Tax Credit on your Green Slip. The prices are effective for Green Slips which come into effect on the commencement date below. While every effort is taken to ensure the accuracy of these prices, you should confirm the prices with the insurer before you make your purchase. Some insurers may also offer 'multi-policy' discounts on other insurance products when you purchase your Green Slip with them. Check with your insurer for more information.
